  • Support and encourage students to take advanced coursework (AP, DE, Honors) and ensure high expectations for all students.

  • Evaluate the purpose and value of homework to ensure assignments aid students in their learning.

  • Evaluate grading practices to ensure we are preparing elementary students for middle school and middle school students for high school, especially for students accessing advanced learning and special education services, including those who are twice exceptional.

PREPARE EVERY STUDENT FOR THEIR FUTURE
  • Support career pathways through exploration in middle school and high school electives (Career & Technical Education, Fine & Performing Arts, Journalism, Academy Courses, etc.) and help non-college bound students pursue careers that do not require a college degree.

  • Create a College Going Culture and help students navigate the college admissions process.

SAFE SCHOOLS
  • Continue to do everything possible to create a safe and inclusive learning environment for each and every student.

  • Invest in additional ATOD (Alcohol, Tobacco & Other Drugs) counselors and prevention training.

SOCIAL & EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

  • Investigate the relationship between student achievement and social/emotional health.

  • Prioritize the mental health of our teachers, counselors, and administrators by listening to them and supporting them in their daily work.

  • Keep students in their community schools so they can live together, play together and learn together.

OPEN COMMUNICATION & TRANSPARENCY
  • Engage with parents, students and community members regarding local school issues.

  • Collaborate with faculty and staff in Dranesville schools to make sure that school-specific needs are being met.

  • Appoint local parents and community members to represent Dranesville on the school board's various advisory committees.

FINANCIAL STEWARDSHIP
  • Address overcrowding in schools, especially those impacted by population growth in the Tysons periphery near the Silver Line.

  • Invest in energy conservation and other sustainability initiatives to save the division money that can be reinvested in student success.

  • Fully fund competitive salaries and benefits for all employees.
